"groggy morning" is meant to be a short, surreal piece capturing how the world feels slow and disjointed when you first wake up. This is showcased through the minimalistic palette and compositions, and emphasis on sound design and odd peacefulness over elaborate animation.
This idea began as a typography exercise where I wanted to focus on the concept of "morning." While most of these focus on a bright happy morning, the second one I designed exhibits a much different type of morning - one where it may be difficult to get out of bed.
From this second image came my design frames for the animation itself. It was important the the feeling of peaceful, but strange slowness was relayed from the get go, even before the motion, sound, and timing came into play.
The palette is pastel primary colors, and black and white, to keep the frames simple. Each frame is also carefully curated and cut off to where you can recognize what's going on, but you can't see the whole picture.
It was designed for Instagram, which meant sticking to the 1:1 square ratio.
Overall I feel that I was able to capture the essence I was going for, and hopefully this video left you unsettled but intrigued about this slow, groggy world.
