This is a 2D animated promotional video I created in Adobe After Effects and Adobe Illustrator for LoanBuddy's hero image on the front page of their website.
The ideation process of this video began with myself trying to figure out what LoanBuddy wanted from this explainer video - what part of the product was it explaining? What are the goals of the video and why was this necessary for the site? How do other explainer videos in similar fields to LoanBuddy portray their product and what can I learn from their videos?
From my research, I created a small deck, mood board, and list of goals to answer these exact questions – along with a very general outline of the video.

Afterwards I met with the CEO of the company, and we discussed the main points and product features that he wanted to hit with this video. Based on this information, I wrote a script for it – keeping in mind the flow of the animation, story, and a time limit of 1 minute to work for most social media platforms and keep viewer's attentions.
Over about a week, I continuously checked in with the CEO until we had what we wanted to convey.

The storyboard came next, and from the storyboard an animatic timed to the voiceover.
Once the basic storyboard and animatic were laid out and timed well, I took the sketches that I had drawn and began creating final, digitized versions of each scene and character in Adobe Illustrator, splitting it up into assets that would be useful for animation later on.
I knew I wanted to match the color scheme of the LoanBuddy Website, and make sure that I was targeting actual consumers - students, teachers, doctors, and families trying to pay off student loans; and advisors who would actually be buying and using the product.

Once we were happy with the direction the thumbnails were going in, I put the frames in time with the voiceover and music as well.
Throughout the process, I continually checked in with the CEO and other designers on the team to make sure that we were on track for what he wanted (see notes below.)
And finally the video was finished and posted up onto the advisor website! The total process took around three weeks - just in time for the FinTech Conference LoanBuddy was leading the next week.
